Editorial. This article presents an argument on securing freedoms through civil liberties and the Patriot Act in the United States. On September 11, 2001, more than 3,000 people died when terrorists hijacked four airplanes and flew them into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon, and another target that was never reached. In the backlash that followed, the U.S. made substantial changes to its strategies for dealing with domestic security, including the 2001 Patriot Act.
